Abstract

The article discusses the trends and features of the Russian-Chinese academic mobility as a complex phenomenon, the impact of which goes far beyond the actual bilateral relations in the field of higher education. The current target model for the development of Russian-Chinese academic mobility, based on quantitative indicators, does not take into account the substantive specifics of the process and is not sufficiently harmonized with the solution of other equally important tasks related to the interests of the Russian Federation in the international arena and the achievement of national development goals of our country. Special attention is paid to complex cause-and-effect relations and multilevel effects accompanying the processes of functioning of Russian-Chinese relations in the subject area under study. The model of competitive partnership proposed by the authors to describe the interaction between the two countries is promising both for conceptualization of the whole variety of processes and multidirectional effects of Russian-Chinese cooperation in higher education, and as a theoretical basis for creating an effective target model and improving Russia's strategy in the development of the humanitarian dimension of cooperation with China.
