The merging of political and economic systems is characteristic of Russian society. This process leads to the fact that the subjects of economy and politics today are the same people. At the same time, such hierarchical institutions of society as the state, the largest corporations and law enforcement agencies stand behind individual representatives of the elite. The authors reveal the features of the formation and functioning of the modern Russian elite. These include traditionalist character, closeness and isolation from society, self-reproduction, heightened intraelite rivalry and structural heterogeneity, the increasing importance of informal ties. Thus, the most important task of the existing elite is the prolongation and preservation of its position to preserve and increase its own assets and influence. There are several scenarios for the transit of power in Russia, however, based on current trends. The most probable transition of power is in the hands of the younger generation of the current domestic elite.
