Abstract

The article analyzes statistical indicators of small and microbusinesses and individual entrepreneurs (number of organizations, number of employees, territorial and sectoral structure). It systematizes the database of the Rosstat statistical register of enterprises, i.e. a general statistical compendium of all legal entities and individual entrepreneurs registered on the territory of the Russian Federation. The article focuses on estimating the share of the sector in the totality of Russian economic actors. The obtained data allowed for revealing a declining trend in the number of economic entities under review, predominance of small business in terms of extent, and an insignificant share of employees in this sector. The paper seeks to generalize the reasons of contradictions identified in scientific publications on the topic. It establishes a negative dynamics of small business development in spite of increased attention of the authorities to business activities in the last two years.
