Abstract

The article is devoted to the Marxist approach to the analysis of spiritual culture. A general description of the materialistic concept of spiritual life developed by classical Marxism is given: when the question of the social conditioning of spiritual activity was posed, spiritual life was considered in Marxist perspective as a special kind of «superstructure» over «basic» socio-economic structures. The article substantiates the opinion that Marx and Engels did not manage to bring the development of this issue to the level of an analytical methodology that effectively works in all spheres of culture, and this predetermined the appearance of vulgar sociological interpretations of the Marxist approach to artistic and philosophical creativity. The author shows the key importance of Lenin's articles on literature for the development of such an analytical methodology. In this context, a new, modern view of these articles is substantiated, including his famous work «Party Organization and Party Literature», in which, as the author of this publication believes, contrary to popular opinion, one should not see a program for establishing totalitarian control over the spiritual creativity, but, on the contrary, the development of the problem of real freedom
