The quality of life is a socio-economic category, combining a variety of aspects and not amenable to direct measurement. In order to name, measure and evaluate such categories, a specific applied research goal or ideological concept is needed. Two approaches to determining the quality of life are given: a macro approach (based on objective statistical data) and a micro approach (based on a subjective assessment of the population using interrogation methods). Three basic concepts are described within which the concept of quality of life was considered. In accordance with the principle of economic well-being, quality of life is measured in terms of GDP. The number of positive and negative emotions in the course of human activity. The concept of the development of the human community is based on the issue of expanding the freedom of choice of a person and his possibilities. Various integral indices of quality of life are considered.
