Abstract

The article describes the integration policy in relation to immigrants from non-EU countries, starting with the 1992 Maastricht Treaty on the creation of the EU and ending with the events associated with the refugee crisis of 2015-2016. The conclusion is substantiated that the EU is striving to develop a certain long-term strategy of action that can not only overcome the migration crisis, but also create a more effective legal framework for the integration of third-country nationals in the EU in the future. The modern approach to the policy of integration is revealed, changes in the EU policy in the field of integration of immigrants and its instruments regarding legal migration are revealed. The characteristic of the public opinion of Europeans about the integration of immigrants in the European Union is given, it is shown that the majority of respondents have a moderate view of the actions of their government.
