Abstract

The article deals with the socio-economic situation in the Republic of Bashkortostan after the 2008 crisis. Both positive and negative trends in the development of the Republic are analyzed. It is noted that both the first (2008-2009) and second (2014-2015) waves of the socio-economic crisis significantly affected, on the one hand, the pace of development of the regional economy, on the other – the financial situation and social well-being of the Republic's residents. Analysis and assessment of the socio-economic development of the Republic contribute to the formation of objective ideas about the existing problems in the region and its development priorities. This is a necessary condition and basis for making effective management decisions by regional economic entities and local government authorities. The Republic makes a significant contribution to the development of the country's economy. At the end of 2017 , the Republic ranked 10th among the regions in terms of gross regional product (GRP) In the Russian Federation (46th in terms of GRP per capita) and 2nd in the Volga Federal district (7th in terms of GRP per capita). Analysis of the dynamics of macroeconomic indices shows that the current socio-economic situation of the region's population is generally worse than in the pre-crisis 2008. As our long-term observations show, the Republic enters the crisis more slowly, but it takes even longer to recover.
