Abstract

The problem of renovation, degrading industrial areas of St. Petersburg, is characterized by a complex of positive and negative consequences and remains one of the most pressing, requiring huge investments. The re-profiling of degrading industrial facilities and the strengthening of the tourist, cultural and entertainment component of the city makes the dominant importance of the environment for residents and tourists, ensuring the safety of the territory and maintaining a balance in the placement of residential and public areas, creating comfortable traffic flows. The existence of industrial zones within the city limits, as before, seriously affects the qualitative assessment of the state of the urban environment, to which the citizens impose increasingly stringent environmental requirements. The process of changing the functions of buildings of industrial groups is associated with complex and expensive architectural and technological solutions in the course of work on their reconstruction. Analysis of statistical and empirical data on the results of renovation made it possible to identify its main trends. To conclude that large-scale housing construction of different quality is becoming dominant due to the reduction of zones with public functions (green recreation areas for citizens, museum squares.) Often, the re-profiling of industrial facilities becomes a knot of clashes and conflicts between defenders of unique urban architecture, business representatives and the city administration.
