Abstract

The article presents the results of sociological surveys held in the Republic of Bashkortostan in 2015 and 2018. Among the urgent problems of the region, they clearly found issues of migration activity of the population. Based on the analysis and comparison of the obtained data migration potential of the republic, major factors and vectors of horizontal mobility and migration are revealed. Along with the well-known physical (geographical) directions of migration, attention is drawn to the other substantial (motivational) aspects of migration, such as the desire to get an affordable and high-quality education, improve material well-being, and the desire for professional self-realization. Socio-economic and socio-labor factors, including standards of living, availability of own housing, social and labor status, occupational or professional changes, place of living, nature of work and compliance with labor rights of employees are identified and analyzed. The authors' estimates, according to which educational and labor migration from the Republic becomes widespread and transforms into a trend that negatively affects the region's competitiveness, are empirically verified and confirmed.
