Abstract

In the twentieth century, the extent of human economic activity went far beyond the biosphere potential of the planet. In the face of the looming depletion of natural resources, the striking disparities in their use and the growing need for them in developing countries, the ruling circles of more successful and rich countries are losing their former confidence in the stability of achieved well-being. Fear of the loss of dominant positions in the world largely explains the manifestations of aggressive imperial hegemony in U.S. international politics. It is short-sighted and unpromising, because it antagonizes the rest of the world, generates conflicts and the threat of war, ultimately becoming destructive to any contender for world domination.
