Abstract

The article assesses the prevalence of ideas about the influence of nationality on the possibility of getting a better job in the all-Russian dimension in comparison with the data of regional studies. The materials for the analysis were a representative all-Russian poll (2020), as well as polls in regions of the Russian Federation with a complex ethnic composition of the population (2014–2020), conducted by the Center for the Study of Interethnic Relations of the Institute of Sociology of the FCTIS RAS. It is shown that in both the all-Russian and regional dimensions, the conviction in the influence of nationality on social advancement in the world of work is hardly due to the existence of a real practice of infringement on the basis of ethnicity in employment. To a greater extent, this is due to the attitudes of people in the field of interethnic relations, ethnic prejudice, as well as the historical context of the country's development.
