The main attention is paid to the analysis of value orientations and features of the manifestation of the matrimonial behavior of teenagers, the main social components of its formation: the peculiarities of marriage selection, premarital acquaintances, attitudes towards registration of marriage, stability of marriage, reproductive attitudes. To the rhetorical question Do our young Russian contemporaries need a family?, The authors of the article answer: Undoubtedly, YES. With numbers in hand, they confirm the traditional adherence of young generations of Russians to such basic value orientations as “a good family and children”, “personal and family health”, “housing and material well-being”, “peace and harmony, kindness and morality. Intrafamily relationships within the framework of fathers-children, with all the innovation of interpersonal relations, for the most part, traditionally lay the foundation for life values, orientations and economic behavior of young people, largely predetermine the projective contours of their future family and work life. Attention is drawn to some destructive aspects of premarital matrimonial behavior of young people. For empirical confirmation of their conclusions and proposals, the authors use the results of a number of sociological surveys on the problems of family building, conducted by them in 1990-2020. at the Institute of Economics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences in cities and rural settlements of the Urals, the Volga region, Western and Eastern Siberia
